It Fits!

First things first: My mom's pacemaker surgery went well and she was able to go home the next day. She has had a lot of surgeries in her life, and she is quite a trooper about them.
My Harvest sweater actually fits! After three completely disastrous attempts at sweater-making, I am as surprised as I am happy that this one is working out. Now I just have the sleeves, and I can't believe they won't be relatively easy.

My current book is a Victorian novel, North and South, by Elizabeth Gaskell:
I took a ton of Victorian lit classes when I was an undergrad, but it has been a couple decades since I read one. I haven't read Gaskell before, so I didn't realize that she is easier to read than Dickens or Eliot. I'm sure one of the reasons I was drawn to this book is that one of its themes is inequality. As a teacher in an urban school, it's hard not to focus on this issue.

I'm joining up with Ginny for Yarn Along.

So glad your mom is OK, and not letting it get her down.

  13. Glad your mom is doing well! My grandma made a wonky sweater, the sleeves don't line up and are different lengths and is was about five sizes too big for her. She was going to toss it and I took it. I love it for sleeping when I am cold.

  14. I'm happy your Moms is recovering well! I'm really happy you are getting some sweater satisfaction. It's the best! And I love that color on you, it's going to be a regular in your rotation, I'm sure! I forgot all about that book. I would love to reread it! I remember enjoying it very much. I don't think as many people are familiar with gaskell if they didn't study lit, non?

  18. Cheers for your pretty pink sweater progress! I can imagine you enjoying wearing it soon. I have heard of Gaskell but have not read her work. While camping I enjoyed reading Jan Karon's "In the Company of Others" set in modern rural Ireland with entries from a diary written in the 1800's. There was some intrigue and mishap that drove the story forward! xx
