He was bright and his future was promising. He was playing football and hoping for a college scholarship. My heart goes out to his mother and the rest of his family.
Partway through the day Friday, I realized that I had a sinus headache. It was kind of a relief to realize that was why I was so tired and achy. Since I got home yesterday, I've been steaming my sinuses, resting, drinking gallons of herbal tea.
This is a summery shirt that I'm embellishing. I start by penciling in some basic lines using a commercial stencil. And then I just kind of doodle from there.
I am so sorry for the loss of your former student. That's hard. I haven't lost any students, but I have one former student doing a life sentence for murder. :-( It breaks your heart no matter which end of the violence they are on.

ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling lots better this evening. How terribly sad about your student. Words aren't adequate for these situations! I do love your embroidery, and you remind me that I need to get out my needle also.
ReplyDeleteHaving been a teacher in a difficult urban area I understand your grief. I scan the papers for names all the time when such tragedies happen. Our kids had two lives, their school one where they felt safe enough to be themselves and the difficult one they led at home that caused them to make bad choices. So sad.

Gun violence seems such a tragic waste of human life. Sorry for you and the boy's family.

I dread the day when I hear the same news..although the urban area I work in is much smaller, there are areas that are very violent...I'm so sorry...
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain, I have been fighting a headache since Wednesday, I thought it was gone but came back with a vengeance Friday morning. I can't seem to shake it. Hope you are feeling better now. I am so sorry for your loss, so much senseless loss of young lives, it doesn't make sense,

The amount of shootings and such we keep hearing about just make me sad, there has to be a solution. I am sorry to hear of your student losing his life :(

ReplyDeleteI hate that for you....we live in a very small town, but one that often has big city problems; our chance of knowing victims (or someone who knows them) is pretty great. Wasted lives. How tragic. Hoping that sinus trouble is history soon....in the meantime, enjoy that embroidery! I sure am!!! Love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry. What a sad story. Chicago's west and south sides have such problems. It's truly a city of disparity -- rarely are we touched by these things on the north side (with a major exception in my old neighborhood last week), but I worked on the south side for years... Hang in there and feel better.
