Languishing WIP

I hate posting bad photos, but it's still pretty dark here at 7:00 a.m. so I had to use flash:

This finished section of the Colorbox Jacket has been sitting in my knitting basket for about a year. The sleeves are finished, too. I can't seem to find the mojo to seam it all together. Then there is the issue of all those loose ends.

But I think the biggest block for me is that I think it came out, well, garish! I can't look at it without thinking: What was I thinking? Still, I have yet to knit a sweater that fits, so I do want to sew this one together. If it turns into a wearable item, I know I'll be happy with it, even as loud as the colors are!

When I checked this morning, Tami hadn't posted yet, but I hope to see what everyone is working on her blog this morning.

Perhaps A Little Forethought Would Have Been a Good Idea

A few weeks ago, I began a sweater with great excitement. You can see it here. I was exciting about picking out the colors, that I kind of rushed into it. Now I am having huge second thoughts.

For one thing, I think that the sleeves are a little too wild in terms of color:

I'm trying to tone it down for the body. You can see in the top photo that I'm using only one hue for each square.

In my rush, I forgot about a little thing called gauge. For reasons I can't explain, it looks like the body will be OK, but the sleeves seem too small. This is what keeps me from sweaters: too risky!

I wish I could spend my afternoon knitting. It's 13 degrees outside, and I'm just not up to braving the cold to go walking or skiing -- either of which would do me some good. However, I have some work to do, so I think I'll make a cup of tea and dig in.

Yarn For My Crayon Box

These are the yarns that I'm using for my Crayon Box. I started with the variagated yarns on top -- Lion Brand Tweed Stripes. I saw the red Mixed Berries color at Joanne Fabrics, and just fell in love with it. I decided to go with a palette of contiguous colors, from red, through purple, to blue.

Since the Tweed Stripes is machine washable, I decided to go with Cascade 220 Superwash for the solids. 

I'm not sure if I like the Tweed Stripes yarn next to the red. I'll have to see how it goes. It was more blue on the outer layer. As I use it, I'm seeing greens and oranges -- not really what I wanted.

It's a bitter cold Friday evening, so I'm simmering a big pot of beef barley soup -- perfect comfort food! I hope your weekend is full of comforts!
