You'll Never Guess What This Is

 Well?

Believe it or not, it's a sweater! It's the Einstein Coat by Sally Melville. I've wanted to make it for ages, and I was able to nab the perfect yarn (Cascade Ecological) on sale when the Wisconsin Craft Market went out of business last month. I'm really focusing on embroidery, so I wanted a simple but useful knitting project.

Our old house had hot water heat, so our cats have been delighted to discover heating vents. Especially since we keep our house at 64 degrees.

I'm off to lunch with my mother. I'm bringing food because the dining room in her retirement community is still closed. We are making great progress with getting help in for her, so I expect things to settle down soon.

  1. Looks like you'll be able to wear that sweater with lots of outfits! Our cat loves to lay on our registers, but they are on the floor, and she knows where each one is. Have a nice lunch with your mom!

  2. My cats do the same thing. They sit by the vents so much that I moved their beds over there and they love it. We've got one that stretches out in front of the wood stove but that worries me. That can't be good.
I had to go look up that sweater and it reminds me on one that I made years ago that was knit sideways like that. It was one of the best fitting sweaters I ever made but I shrunk it in the wash. Taught me never to believe the machine washable labels on yarn. I was heart broken.

  4. I've met Sally Melville, and she gave me a great piece of advice about designing.. and that's that designs don't have to be complicated or intricate to be beautiful. It's so easy to get run away with grand ideas when sometimes simple is best. Her designs always exemplify this.

Love the cats. We had electric baseboards at the townhouse, and it's a gas furnace here. I've been waiting for one of the cats to discover that they can lay on the vents... I figured it would be Rupert, but so far, they are ignoring the vents!

  5. Our cat Jessiecat (sadly gone) did that in our Eugene house--she stretched out over the entire vent. I would walk into a room and wonder why it was a little chilly and it was because she was stretched out over the vent1

  6. Great start to the sweater; it will be very interesting to see how you will embellish it! (our home is at 74*--I can't imagine it at 64!!!!!)

  7. Happy to hear things are falling into place for your mother’s care. I know it’s stressful to find reliable help. I keep my apartment heat turned between 64-66°

  8. I have always loved that Einstein Coat pattern! I can't wait to see it evolve. It seems like the perfect counterbalance to your embroidery, too. Enjoy your time with your mom. I do hope things settle in to a reasonable rhythm for you. XO

  10. The Einstein Coat is gorgeous. I'll look forward to seeing yours develop. Sweet kitties. Mabel doesn't lay in front of the baseboard heaters (Tyg used to do that in bathroom). Glad to hear that you are getting help for your Mom. And glad you could go over and have lunch with her!

  11. Great yarn score from WCM! I was never able to get to their sale location, which was frustrating. They had such a fantastic yarn department.

I'm so glad you are able to visit your mom.
