Pandemic January

I hoping to have a photo of my Seth and his partner, Clara, because I spent a few days in Chicago last week. Unfortunately, before I got around to it, both Seth and I got sick. I had the worst GI bout I've ever experienced. And it wasn't fun to be away from home. When things began to subside around 1:30 a.m., I drove home -- almost 3 hours!

I don't regret the trip, though. I had a couple awesome days seeing people and visiting the Art Institute, which featured Barbara Kruger. I had never heard of her, and her social justice themes are perfect for our times:

The temperatures were almost as low in Chicago as they are in Madison, so sketching was out of the question. However, I found an alternative. I know that pandemic life is harder for some people than others. I am a homebody, so I think that I've fared quite well. It seemed appropriate to do a home sketch:

Later on I was warmed up by Kola. I think she missed me!

NOTE: Dane County, where I live, has the third highest rate of Covid in the entire country! It's a good thing I like being home.

  1. I hope you are feeling better. It's no fun to be sick and away from home. I got H1N1 on a trip to NYC when I was visiting Daughter and it was torture getting home on a train as sick as I was. I hate to think of all the people I infected before I knew what I had. I had even gone to Rhinebeck and a Broadway show with a fever before it hit me like a ton of bricks. We were way past the big outbreak so I never had a clue to what was wrong with me until I got home and got tested. Being a teacher at the time I was used to always being sick with something or other but this was off the charts bad.
Home sketching sounds like a perfect solution. I'm not going anywhere right now either. We even just had a grocery delivery and had them put the stuff in the back of the car. I've seen Covid and I've seen Long Covid and I don't want it. My BIL is still suffering over a year later and it's not pretty.

  2. Hopefully you and Seth are all better or at least on the road to recovery. Being a homebody has had it's advantages the past 2 years.

  4. I am so sorry. I can think of nothing worse than GI "stuff" when you're not at home. The WORST. I hope you're feeling better! Your at-home sketch is wonderful. My watercolor class is still meeting via Zoom, and we do a lot of still-lives-at-home. (It works. . . )

  5. Sorry about your GI bout away from home - that is the WORST!! I'm glad you got to enjoy your visit a bit though. I really like your home sketch and I don't blame you for being a home body. That is my favorite way to be - especially these days! Stay well!!
