Double FO Friday

When you are under doctor's orders to sit around all day, you can get a lot of knitting done! As a result, I have two finished hats to show you.

This first one is the Toboggan Run I was working on earlier this week. Details are here. It's a great pattern if you don't mind miles of seed stitch. I think it's worth it. I love the yarn and tried to get more online, but I don't think it's possible😞. It will be a holiday gift. One down!

This is Maayan's Hat. My own design. There are lots of baby hat patterns, but I couldn't find a colorwork style that I liked, so I made up this one:

I don't think it qualifies as a Fair Isle design because some rows have three colors. I've wanted to figure out how to do that. My method is clunky, but it gets the job done. I used Encore DK yarn because it's inexpensive to experiment with, hard-wearing, and washable.

Now I need to get the model over here to see if it fits!

Ah, Summer!

For me, summer starts officially this afternoon, seeing as today was the last day of school. I will have to go back to organize and clean, but that's easy stuff.

I celebrated with a pitcher of Rishi iced tea, peach rooibos.

And I admired my new t-shirt. I'm sure you can see why I HAD to have it:

I wasn't planning to buy any shirts at all, but last night I went to a Night Market (a street fair held in the evening) with a friend and I could not resist this adorable T!

And speaking of shirts, I'm embroidering another one. You can't tell, but it's blue chambray.

I finished the Lambkin Lid, destined for an August baby. This is the toddler size and it seems large, so I think I'll make a baby one, too. It's one of those projects that flies off your needles!

And last, but not least, I went stash shopping for yarn to use in the Through the Loops Mystery Shawl 2017.  Kirsten Kapur recommends using solid yarns for this pattern. Most of my fingering weight is self-patterning or variegated. I was surprised I was able to find two solids that would work together.

Tomorrow I'm off to take a class at the Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee. I may visit the market there, too!

A Hard Habit to Break

I can't stop thinking of Wednesday as the day to blog about books and needles, so here's what I'm up to.

I've started the Fair Isle on the baby hat, but I am simplifying the pattern so there are only two colors per row. It doesn't look lime much, yet.

And I've jumped on the Hygge bandwagon, which I first learned about from Kathy. I'm especially interested in Hygge because I'm going to Copenhagen in June. Believe it or not, my round-trip ticket cost $422. Obviously I bought it immediately. I was happy to go alone, but two friends are joining me. It gives me something to look forward to in these last six weeks of school.
