Fretting about a Sweater

I've been working on the Windchill Cardigan that I'm knitting for my daughter. The whole issue of fit is what freaks me out about sweaters. My daughter is quite slender so I thought this would be easy: Just make the smallest size and then hope it's not too big.
But now that I'm working the arms, I'm worried that they are too small in circumference. I could email her to measure her biceps -- she works out -- but at this point, I'm just going to keep going.

I do like the waffle-weave border!

If it doesn't fit, I'll follow Elizabeth Zimmerman's advice and find someone who fits the sweater. That would be a bummer and I'd still need to knit a sweater for Rachel.
I've started embroidering my knitting doll. As you can see, I make up the color scheme as I go. It's more fun that way.

 In other news, Seth got news this week that he passed his Veterinary boards! This one huge stressor off his plate. He'll continue on rounds through graduation in May. In mid-February we should know where he'll be for his internship year. So far, hospitals in Louisville and Miami have told him they are interested. His sister in in grad school in Miami, so that would be a great place for him.

 And this is the boy who barely did enough work to graduate from high school. They surprise us, don't they?

    How big around are the sleeves? Plus, blocking can add a bit!

    Sapphire is a gorgeous color for a sweater. I certainly hope it fits your daughter.

    Congratulations to your son: you must be very proud of his accomplishment.

    Did you see Urban Sketchers on the Saturday NBC Nightly News? I nearly screamed, "I know someone who does that!"

    I read on someone's blog today about comparing the pieces of the WIP with a comparable garment which fits nicely. Do you have anything she has worn that you can compare too?

    Congrats to Seth! I hope he lands at a wonderful veterinary hospital that sees a wide variety of animals - family pets, farm animals and maybe some wild animals. Of course I probably have a very romanticized idea of a vet's life - i dad a lot of those James Herriot books when I was younger ;)

    Congrats to Seth!!! Having a vet in the family seems like a good idea. I know we spend a fortune at our!
    I had the same issue when I was trying to knit a sweater for my skinny son long distance. I tried two times and never liked the fit. I hope he donated those terrible things to a homeless person that could fit in them. Never again.

    great news on the home front!!!! Love the knitting girl....and adore the waffle border; I never thought of that as a border stitch, and it's lovely!!! Fingers crossed that the sweater fits....aggressive blocking can do wonders!!!!!!!

    I hope that the sweater fits your daughter, but like you said if not you can find someone else that fits it. I love the waffle border too, so nice! Love your stitch work so far. Congratulations to your son for finishing school and good there are options for his internship.

    I get the whole sweater gamble-it's tough. The schematic should help. The knitting doll is adorable-nice work! And a big wow and congratulations to your son on his accomplishment!!!

    Congratulations to your son! I'm glad to hear that milestone has been conquered! As a Mother to a good kid, whom I think is an underachiever of his own making it's nice to hear that everyone can find their way in their time. I think I physically relaxed a bit more when reading your story.

    I hope the sweater fits but if it doesn't I'm sure you will come up with something for her. Also do not underestimate the power of blocking. That blue is beautiful. Do you like the pattern enough you'd do it again?
