More Hats

I had enough yarn left over from my last Fair Isle hat to make a second one. I designed the pattern for this one:

I'm not sure I like it better than the original. You can compare them below. I'd love to hear your thoughts -- yes, constructive criticism is welcome. Mine has more detail, but I think these colors worked better in a simpler design.

And I finished After the Fall. It's a good beach-type read about a group of people on a private plane that crashes.]I think it's out in paperback, and it would be a good vacation novel.

I hope your week is going smoothly. Snow is falling here as I type, with 5 to 7 inches expected. The snow will probably end by 1 a.m., so it's unlikely I'll get a snow day tomorrow. That's probably for the best. I have a lot of work to do before the end of the school year.

  1. I like yours best. It has a more authentic Fair Isle look imho.
Sorry about the snow although I would take it over the blistering heat we had on Saturday.

  2. I like them both, but yours has more interest to me. Are you going to try and write up the pattern?

  3. I like both hats, but think the extra detail and patterning on yours is wonderful. It's delightfully springy (while 5-7" of snow is not)!

  4. I think both hats are wonderful -- cheerful and happy colors that work well together. I like the design in your original, but I think I agree with you that the colors work better with the more basic patterning in the second hat (more chance for individual colors to shine). I hope your snow melts quickly -- and that spring just gets on with things! :-)

  5. I like them both too! I really like the 'middle' design in the top hat (the yellow predominant one) and that one perhaps with a simpler top and bottom pattern could look great too! Make a third!

  6. I really like them both. Such "happy" colors! Oh, my goodness. This spring has been such a roller coaster of weather! I'm very thankful we are only having cold winds (relative - we did get down into the 30s overnight this past weekend). I hope your snow thaws soon and the sun shines warmly on you! blessings ~ tanna

  7. I like the size of the second one more. It should have a bit of slouch eh? when it is worn. Both though, Deb, are works of art.
The snow just better be finished here too. The sun is out. We are off to the barn. The wind and longer days should get rid of this white stuff quickly I hope. We are all hoping right?

  9. You knit beautifully on both of them but I do appreciate the finer detail in the colorwork on your design. Excellent work!

  12. Both hats look wonderful and so colorful! That book sounds interesting, I will add to my list. I am usually trying to find a good book to take with me on vacation in the summer, so I can give this one a try.
